Health- Advocate for biomedical research, polymers and advanced materials, liquid crystals, aeronautics, and renewable energy technologies, to make Ohio a world leader
- Work to achieve quality affordable health care and support wellness and prevention programs
- Make certain that prescription drugs are more affordable and that seniors receive offer discounts for their prescriptions
- Ensure care for children most in need, children who are at-risk and sick kids receive early detection services.
- Adopt a comprehensive Wellness and Prevention Plan for Ohio that addresses detection, proper use of meds, and teach healthy lifestyles. Encourage employers to implement wellness programs for their employees, Support legislation and provide grants that encourage communities to create healthy designs for wellness programs.
- Limit awards for non-economic damages in medical malpractice cases and mandate alternatives to jury trials such as arbitration (Recent Judgment)
- Reform Ohio's Medicaid System to ensure coverage to those who cannot afford it by delivering services more efficiently, implement information technology to upgrade Ohio’s antiquated and inefficient Medicaid records. Make sure the state is purchasing prescription drugs, equipment and services at competitive rates. Open up more options for seniors in need of long-term care.
Jobs- Look into ways to reduce barriers to job growth by creating policies that will attract new businesses/industries in Ohio, but not at the expense of local government funds or the burden on tax payers.
- Focus on workforce development and job training to create a highly trained workforce for the business community.
Quality of Life- Uphold and advance the quality of life in our communities by creating and maintaining great places for workers to live and for our kids to learn and play. Invest in the arts, in cultural activities, recreational and natural resources, historic preservation, and tourism. Examples include cracking down on sexual predators, having a zero tolerance for repeat drunk drivers; give police, prosecutors, and judges the tools they need to fight drugs in our communities; make sure federal homeland security dollars are directed to first-responders; close loopholes that allow career criminals to escape the full force of the law for their crimes; and allow judges to better protect victims of domestic abuse
Seniors- Protect senior citizens from exploitation and abuse by passing tough laws against defrauding or physically abusing seniors
Education- Make sure kids have the tools they need to succeed in a changing world by assuring that all of Ohio’s children have access to an affordable world-class education.
- Work to reduce the need for local levies to fund our schools making sure that kids in poor school districts have the opportunities they need to succeed.
- Demand results from all schools and ensure that precious education dollars go into the classroom and not into bureaucracy and paperwork
- Maintain a safe learning environment.
- Consider pooling education dollars for health care and purchasing
- Grant scholarships to enable parents of gifted and special needs children to place their child in a school that best fits their needs.
- Teach toward achieving excellence, increase teachers pay, youth need a total of 16 years of education
Higher Education- Keep public college and university tuition low for Ohio's students
- Make sure that Ohio's universities are meeting the needs of tomorrow's employers and leaders by investing in community colleges, vocational, and technical education by encouraging and investing in life-long education, vocational and technical training for more Ohioans
Veterans- Assure that veterans who fought for our freedoms and who have made this country great and our state proud have access to programs and services, including services for homeless veterans, e.g. transitional housing; day services; education, training and employment services; drug and alcohol counseling; mental health services, including relationship problems; food and nutritional programs; outreach to the community; motivational and self-esteem groups; money management and budgeting; and permanent housing referrals.
- Access to health care coverage as military health care benefits wind down
Energy/Infrastructure- Advocate for funding for aging and deteriorating roads, bridges, drinking water systems and wastewater systems and to development brownfields sites.
- Promote Ohio as the right place for renewable energy technology investment
- Encourage students to develop math, science and engineering skills to use Ohio’s natural resources to power a new, vibrant Ohio economy
Such investment in infrastructure would promote public health and safety, set the stage for economic development and lead to job creation in local communities. It will take considerable commitment, bipartisan cooperation, money and, commitment to renew Ohio’s infrastructure. It will become the responsibility of State Legislatures to see that the infrastructure exists to meet the needs of the 21st Century economy in Ohio.
